Literature Day 3: Classic American PoetryLiterature Day 3: Classic American Poetry
Dear Students!

Here is your assignment for Day 3 of the GC sequence on Literature. Our work on Day 3 will focus on classic American poetry.

1. Select one of the works of one of the poets below. To insure that there is no duplication, post your decision in a comment to this post as soon as you make a selection. Select any piece you want – two if you wish, after everyone else has made their selection.

2. Before we meet, please comment briefly here in writing on the poet and on the work you have selected. Be certain that you mention the year when the poem was written. This will help place it in its historical and social context.

3. Be prepared to read the work (or works) during class, to answer questions about the work and the poet, and to discuss the selections of the other students. In discussing the works, please use the document “Factors for Analyzing Works of Literature.”
